Barn owl Summer learning journey

On your blog, write a short description of your bird. Where does your bird normally live? What does your bird normally eat?  Post a picture of the bird underneath your description. Be sure to attribute your picture properly.

Random facts about the Barn Owl
I choose the Barn Owl and here is some info on them
The Barn Owl is a new native to New Zealand. They are the most loved and well-known owl in the world, and known as the ‘farmer's friend’ because of their appetite for rats and mice. These beautiful owls have recently made New Zealand their home, and are now helping keep Aotearoa pest free!

Where does your bird normally live?
Barn Owls are normally found on every continent except Antarctica. In the Americas, barn owls occur in suitable habitat throughout South and Central America, and in North America as far north as the northern United States and southwestern British Columbia.

What does your bird normally eat?
They eat small mammals, particularly rats, mice, voles, lemmings, and other rodents they also eat shrews, bats, and rabbits. Most of the prey they eat are active at night, so squirrels and chipmunks are relatively safe from Barn Owls. They sometimes eat birds such as starlings, blackbirds, and meadowlarks.

  1. Hi Evangeline!

Nice work on another completed activity! What an interesting bird! So nice and helpful of the barn owl to take care of the rats and mice - makes sense that they're the "farmer's friend"! Quite surprised about their diet - how they sometimes eat other birds! Otherwise, you've gathered some great information about the farm owl that have left me informed :D

I also admire your image attribution - nice!

Keep up the good work :)

  2. Thank you for the nice comment. Rats and mice are very annoying but even if they are annoying that is not the way to take care of them what do you think?. It is a lovely image isn't it.

    Kind Regards
    Evangeline
