Summer learning journey: Day 5

Activity 1

Unlike the Māori, many of the European settlers didn’t speak Te Reo Māori. Instead, they spoke English. As you can imagine, it was very difficult for the two groups to communicate because they did not have a dictionary or a translator. These days we are able to use the Internet to translate words and phrases from one language to another.

how to say fantastic in Maori ngahau.

how to say dictionary in Maori papakupu.

how to say instead in Maori Engari.

how to say asleep in Maori Moa.

how to say come in Maori haere mai.

Today I watched a video of a game called Poi Rakau,. The goal of this game is to always have a stick standing. One person will say left or right and what ever way they say you would have to run to the stick on the left or the right depending on what that person says.

The rules are that you have to run to the stick without it falling or your out and you cant dig the stick into the ground or your breaking the rules.

In the 1800s, most families were pretty big. In fact, many parents had an average of nine children my family is pretty big so I would love to be in a family that is big because there is more entertainment and it's faster to clean but the bad thing is you will have to keep track of everyone.

would you wanna be in a big family.

Back in the 1800s, most Māori ate a simple diet. They ate foods that they could catch in the water or grow on the land. They did not have access to a supermarket to buy food for their meals!

My favourite food is pizza because I love the melted cheese and here is the recipe for the cheesey garlic pizza,
  1. Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. Lightly grease a large baking tray. Using a 12cm-round cutter, cut 4 rounds from pizza base. ...
  2. Combine garlic and oil in a bowl. Spoon mixture over each base. Spread with a spoon to cover. ...
  3. Bake for 8 minutes or until cheese has melted and bases are crisp. Sprinkle with thyme.

When I grow up I want to be a doctor because I love to help people when they are sick.
I always help my Mum when she is sick and I want to experience the feeling of being a doctor. This is a picture of me in the hospital waiting for someone that needs help.

Summer learning journey: Day 2

Activity 1

A wharepuni is similar to my house because it has a roof that keeps the rain from coming inside and also because it has windows so that we can see outside.

My house is different to a wharepuni because we dont have moari carvings outside and because my house has stairs that lead to an upstairs area.

To Madison Moutuliki,

I am going to voyage to a different country in a waka with my family. I am so nervous and scared because they said it was going to be a very long journey. When we get in the waka I hope it will be sunny and smooth sailing. I am so happy that we get to experience a different country but also sad because we have to leave this country.

From Your Friend,

air balloon

One day there was a girl named chelsea and she was so excited because she was going to ride on a hot air balloon with her mum, but first she had to get dressed so she got in the shower got changed had breakfast brushed her teeth and did her hair then her mum did the same, after that she went into the car it was a long ride and chelsea fell asleep almost the whole way there. When they got there, there was a line and it took so long so they waited, waited and waited until it was their turn and they were so excited because they’ve never been on a hot air balloon.

When they got in the air balloon it was so cool but when it took off Chelsea was a little bit scared but also excited it was going fine until the air balloon was out of control they were terrified. When they were in the air balloon Chelsea almost fell out but then mum caught her and held her tight and everyone that was there left because they didn't want that to happen to them.

When they were up there they figured out a way to get down, they told the workers to attach a rope and pull them down it took a while to get the rope attached to the air balloon and to pull them down but they managed to get them down. When they got home they were so scared so they just watched some t.v and ate launch and they forgot about that whole thing.
