Last post at school this year

Dear blog readers,
This is my last post for this year because it is the last day at school with our Chromebooks before we go on Christmas holidays.

Thank you for reading my blog post this year. In this blog post, I will be telling you about some of my highlight of this year.

My first highlight this year is when we went to Camp Bentzon because of all the activities we got to do. We had a lot of opportunities, some were very challenging well others were quite easy.

My second highlight is when our year 6 Extension group got the chance to make UV sensors. it was very fun and we also learnt a lot from making it.

My final highlight is being able to be one of the first people to talk to visitors as I am an ambassador. Its a really great opportunity to be an ambassador as they are a big part of the  school and we get to go to different universities.

Kawau island top tips

Dear future campers, Camp Bentzon has a really high chance of being your favorite experience. Camp Bentzon is a camp that is on Kawau island, it also includes a lot of activities on both land and water. The activities may require a lot of movement which may or may not make you tired or very worn out depending on the types of things you are good at and things you aren’t used to and/or good at! Everyday you will need to run up Killer hill, On the first day it would feel like a very long and tiring trip on killer hill, however every day after that at camp they make you run a shorter amount of the hill. Kawau island is going to be a very big change to your normal life in Auckland!

Now I will share 5 top tips about camp that will make your experience better. My first tip is about Killer Hill, The first thing you will need to know about killer hill is that it is a very long way to walk, so make sure to bring the right clothes and shoes! At first you will probably feel like you may fall but I assure you that if you concentrate and make sure not to think about it too much you will safely get to a flatter part of the hill. You will go up and down the hill several times until you get to the bottom then you will eat morning tea there and you will also be able to play in the park, Then you will need to walk back up the mountain until you get back to camp ground, It’s a really long trip.

The next tip is about bedtime, On the first night you may feel super excited and you might even be to excited to go to sleep at the right time. But you really do need to go to sleep at the right time because you will need a lot of energy for everyday as each day includes water or dry activities and on the last day you will need to do activities as well as pack up and let me tell you now that there is a lot of work and effort you will need to put into cleaning and/or packing up. So make sure to get enough sleep so you can have enough energy for the day.

Now let's move on to tips that are a bit sneaky in ways you may or may not understand. So this tip is about being able to get more food than they allow one person to get. The first this you will need to do is you might be able to get seconds but i'm sure you won't be able to get 3rd. If you are still hungry after you eat your 2nd meal you may want a 3rd meal. If there is more you could change your hat and ask for another one without looking at the server because they might recognize you, so make sure to try your best to cover your face but at the same time be polite. If you aren’t sure about that idea maybe you could get a friend who hasn’t had seconds and who doesn't want seconds, you could ask them to get seconds and if they could give it to you? Keep in mind the first suggestion may only work when you get your lunch from the window, it's kinda like a drive through but for humans Just make sure to be polite!

The next tip is about possible being able to stay in the water for a bit longer then the amount of time they gave you. To be able to achieve this you may or may not need to be on the wharf. While everyone else was in the ocean I was on the wharf I got to stay on the wharf 10 minutes longer then we were allowed a the time. I don’t know if that occurs to yous all next year but it's worth a try.

Now for the last tip, it's about holding on to your hat when coming on and/or off the ferry or when standing on the wharf. I am telling you about this because my friend Mia’s hat flew off her head. I believe her and her friends were playing around and as she carried on playing she lost grip of her hat and the wind got very strong then her hat flew off her head. At the time it was very funny but as time passed by, she realized that she had just lost her hat and it was no longer funny to her. Another person's hat flew off while they laughed because of their friends joke. So I recommend listening to teachers and hold onto your hats on both the wharf and on the ferry as the wind picks up when your on the ferry, but keep in mind that you only need to hold onto your hat when in your on the roof of the ferry.

Overall I think camp is one of my favorite experiences every. Camp had all sorts of things that entertained me in lots of different ways. I loved Camp Bentzon and I think you will to. All of the activities are different and some may be very challenging for you and some may be very easy but just keep in mind that everyone has different weaknesses that may or may not be the same as your so make sure to be respectful towards them. Hope you enjoyed my top 5 tips on Camp Bentzon. I hope you have a great time when you get the chance to go to Camp Bentzon if you just get to go to Kawau island.

Term 2 animation

This is my animation for term 2. This animation was to help show visitors around our school. I had fun making this as it was quite easy as I knew my way around the school and knew almost what everything was called. Rocky Shore Writing

WALT:paraphrase and summaries information
The Rocky Shore is an inter-tidal habitat which commonly has various zones. The rocky shore is amazing and filled with animals that are very beautiful. This zone is called the Supra-tidal or splash zone. It is only covered during storms and extremely high tides and it is soaked by the water of breaking waves. Animals like the isopods, barnacles, limpets live in the splash zone during the winter, they are found lower on the inter-tidal rocks. The inter-tidal zone is in between high tide and low tide. High tide is normally controlled by physiological on temperature and drying. Low tide is mostly determined by the presence of predators or competing species. The animals that live in the inter-tidal zone are anemones, barnacles, chi-tons, crabs, green algae, isopods, limpets, mussels, sea lettuce, sea palms, sea stars, snails, sponges, and whelks. The Sub-Tidal zone is the area below the inter-tidal zone and most of the time it's covered by water. Organisms do not dry out as often as organisms higher on the beach. They grow much faster and are better in competition for the same bay. More nutrients are gained  from the water and they are  from extreme changes in temperature. The rocky shore is an inter-tidal area which is very common to New Zealanders. The rocky shore has many different zones including the Splash zone also known as the Supra-tidal, Sub-tidal zone and Inter-tidal zone.  The rocky shore is a beautiful area that has many different species of animals living there.

Task Description:  Mr Goodwin has asked us to finish a writing task. in order to finish this task we need to be able to remember things about the rocky shore. We were writing about the Rocky Shore. We also got create a picture that we used for reading. We created a picture that showed all the zones and different animals that live in the Rocky Shore.

Write like a year 6 (part 2)

It is a dark and stormy night, shadows cover the 2 story house in darkness. Lightning strikes and suddenly quiets down. Only being broken by the voices of the dead houses owners. I look closely and the curtains, suddenly they open up but looking inside I see darkness and as the lighting strikes it opens up a pathway of light throughout the house, all you are able to see is bright red blood dripping down the wall, It's still wet. I start to question if it's haunted or not.

Blood drips down the walls of the grey ruined house. As I get closer to the house more blood appears and I start to see faces. After their faces appear I start to see that the other half of their bodies are gone! Ghosts appear and the lightning starts getting louder and louder. I start to think they don't want me near their house so I back away slowly but as I get further and further away fog rises off the ground mysteriously. I start to sprint past the house but it seems when I run I go past the house again and again! So I stop running and I end up in front of the house again I freak out I'm so scared. What should I do!?

Write like a year 6 (part 1)

Kids peered over the bushes and they see a house entirely made out of candy, chocolate and sweets. The kids are wearing blue cloth and are wearing a bright blue hats on their heads. The kids are dying to eat the house, but are hesitating too, because they are scared that whoever lives in the house will get furious about not having a roof over his or her head.

It's a lovely day, and not a speck of rain fell and not a sound of wind blew. the sun shines brightly and the delicious chocolate melts, and as it drips down the house the children get closer and closer to the house. They look around and they see that the roof is smothered in whipped cream and topped of with humongous bright red cherries. The walls are lightly covered with chocolate and dollops of pink marshmallows are on either side of the green sticky door. The house is surrounded by white and red candy canes. The window matches the door as they both have blue frosting around the edges.

They realize no one lives in the house so they eat it. They have to run back to there house. They run as fast as they could, only because as they ate the roof a old lady in such a deep sleep snore so loud, and they wanted to laugh but in doing so they woke her up so instead they ran! They made it home in time and they agreed to never go back there again. _________________________________________________________________

Write like a year 6 (part 3)

One day I was walking down the beach and I saw a castle sitting deep in the water. The castle had a old faded tan color. The castle made a sound and I thought it was about to fall on me, but instead it opened a pathway into the castle. I walked in not aware of how old it was. I stepped out for a moment to admire the ancient look of the castle.

As i looked closely I saw the windows that looked like it was carved into the castle, I don't think you could see through them. I looked inside noticing it was a 3 story castle. I walked up to the second floor and I saw the bedrooms and looking down across the hall, I saw the stairs leading to the top of the castle. I got to the top and I felt the breeze creeping inside through the top of the castle roof, so I walked further up and I noticed I could stand on the roof. It felt so cool standing on the flat roof. But just then I had to go home so I walked home and told my mum about it all. She was so surprised so she looked at the castle and took a sample. She then took it back home and she noticed something weird. But she didn’t tell me. I was to scared to look so I just walked away. Then she called me back and I was shaking!

Fake recount about a hot dog eating contest

Walt: Create fake recount

Sometimes my mum makes me do some weird things. One time she even made me compete against my family in a hot dog eating competition. When she asked me I said yes but I didn't know what I was in for. I thought this was more for someone much bigger than me like my older brother because he can eat a lot.

Yesterday my mum asked me if I wanted to do something exciting. She said “would you want to have a hot dog eating competition”. I replied “YES PLEASE!!” I was so amazed because it's not normal for her just to ask something like that. I knew it was going to be fun! I thought she meant to go out a place and have a hot dog eating competition but I was wrong. We got to do something even better. I got to do it at home! We had 5 rounds to do, and whoever passes all of them would win. The winner could pick whoever had to do their chores for the whole week.

The first round I had to compete against was my little sister’s. I was so happy because I knew I would win. I ate four and a half and my little sisters could only eat 2 each which meant they only ate four and that meant I had won. I wasn’t that excited because I knew I would beat them anyway. I only knew that because they never eat much.

The next round was a bit harder because I had to compete against my older sister. My sister ate five which was hard because I already ate 4 and a half but for some reason I ate five and I was so full. But then I saw the other half of the hot dog. It was from the round before so I decided to eat it. Which meant I won! I was so happy I beat her but I was also so scared to do the next round as it was against my older brother.

It was so hard because I already ate ten hot dogs and that meant I couldn't eat as many. It also meant I couldn't eat any more. That meant I lost the third round! It was against my brother. He eats more than all his siblings sometimes he can eat more than my dad so I would have lost anyway. I was fine with losing but then it was up to my brother to win against my mum and my dad or it could be the other way around.

I stayed to watch and it turned out my brother beat both my dad and my mum I was shocked but I knew he was going to win anyway. I was just hoping he didn't choose me to do his chores and he didn't he choose my older sister! I was so happy but I felt sad for her because she had lots of chores to do so I decided to do some of her chores and once I thought it was enough just for her to handle. I let her do the rest.

In the end we all had a great time being able to have so much fun with hot dogs! I hope I would get another opportunity like this. It was so fun but it made me feel unwell. I said hesitatingly “Will we do this all the time?” My mum realized I wasn’t feeling well so she replied “ No not all the time but maybe every now and then”.

40 hour famine

On Friday June the 7 me and some of my friends particapated in the 40 hour famine! It is so cool and while you have fun you are also helping people that need things

We had the 40 hour famine at school. First we go home then around 6:30 we go back to school and then we drop all our stuff in the library because the library is the place where we had to sleep and a teacher kept an eye on us so we wouldn't eat any food. We could only eat barely sugars and we could only drink just juice. It was such. fun experience even though i did it last year. Im even more excited this year because I'm a year 6 and its funner because you are able to be a leader for your team. It didn't happen but I was still very excited!! I was so happy that I was in a team with all me friends and I even got to sleep next to them and that was even better. I had lots of fun eating the same thing for breakfast and dinner. I still had fan because my friends were so fun to play with. It was hard to talk without them making me laugh every five seconds.  40 hour famine is helping kids in need of food, water, shelter, schools and even foster parents.

We had lots of fun doing activities, performing and even watching movies. The first thing we did was we played in the hall it helped us kill  time and it was lots of fun too. Once everyone arrived we had time to prepare our performance. We had 45 minutes to do so! We could either dance, sing, tell jokes, or we could choose whatever else. After our 45 minutes were up we performed on stage one group sang and the rest danced!! we had spare time to either play in the hall, sit and chat in the library or play in the creative space, We did that for about 20 minutes and then we could stay in the library or watch the movie. I choose to stay in the library but my friend made way to much noise so we had to watch the movie. After that we went straight to sleep! In the morning we had to pack up our stuff and play in the hall until our parents picked us up. My sister and I went home first but it was still fun.

I hope you get an opportunity as cool as this some day because it might be the best moment with your friends. Overall it was a pretty amazing experience. I hope you will join in next year!!!

Treasure chest

One day I was sailing on a boat. I learnt how to steer and how to catch the wind to make the boat go faster, but what I didn’t know was how to stop it from going out to far into the sea. I ended up sailing out way to far into the sea. I was so scared but then I saw a little island. It was very dry and it looked like a desert island. I had to stay there because I had nowhere else to go. So I went there. Sadly there was no food, no water and no rescue either. I got to the island and sat there for a bit. Then I decided to have a look around. Because I decided to look around, I found a treasure map. I was so happy but mostly surprised because I have never seen anything like it. It had so much detail on it. I was confused because I didn't understand pirate language but I found a way to understand it.

It took me to a strange place. I looked around and found a strange looking spot on the dry sand. I started to dig in that unusual looking spot. I dug for a bit but then I hit something hard. I tipped the sand out of the hole and I found a treasure chest. I looked at it then I tried to open it but there was a lock. I looked on the outside and I saw a clue. It was about the lock and how to open it. I ended up under a tree. I dug for a while and saw something shiny. I washed all the dirt off of it and it turned out to be a key. I Tried to unlock it and it wouldn’t work. I tried all the other keys but one. None of them worked but then I tried the last one and I finally opened it.

Inside was a whole lot of coins. There was diamonds too. I was so happy and I had no idea what I was going to do with all of it. I saw paper and it said that all of that was worth $25,000. I looked at the date and it said 1985. I realized that it was worth so much more now. It was worth millions more. I was so happy so I decided to send a note in the bottle asking for some help and in doing so I received help.

I got home and told my family about it. They were so happy and said I could keep it all. I was so happy and decided to save some to give it to my parents. In doing so they had enough money to buy us a mansion.

I had a room so big that it looked like a mini house. I could fit lots of stuff in there and all my siblings had the same sized room. My parents got the biggest room. We all had our own closets. We also all had kings beds. I bought all my stuff with the money I had left over. I bought a hammock, a swing chair, couch, a smart TV and much more. I bought some new clothes, shoes, a new phone, laptop and iPad. I also got air pods which were very expensive. I still had lots of money left over so I decided to ask what pet my siblings would want. My older sister asked for a guinea pig so I bought her a guinea pig. Then I asked my brother and he said a kitten I also bought him that. My mum and dad wanted a bunny so I bought it. Last but not least I wanted a puppy and I got it. My baby sisters just played with our pets because they can’t look after a pet by themselves yet. I had $1 million left over so I bought all of our pets food beds and toys to play with. I ended up buying a Jacuzzi because I still had money left over. I had $8000 left so I bought some picture frames and a lamp for me. I bought a desk to put it on and I bought a chair with wheels so I can sit on my desk. I only had $1000 left so I bought some food and gave it to some homeless people. I had 50 dollars left and I decided to use it on our dinner so I bought us dinner.

That was the best day of my life. My family and our pets were happy to. Even My baby sisters were happy and there not always happy. I was glad to see how happy my family were but most of all I got to spend even more time with them. I hope you enjoyed this story!

Enchanted Forest

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/68/England_-_English_Summer_Forest_%287183018142%29.jpg
Tree Trunks
The tree trunks were so tall it looked like a tower. The tree trunks were so thick and pointed it hurt just to touch it. I liked the tree trunks because it looked very unique and as I walked down the forest the tree trunks got thinner.
Leaves
The leaves were so pretty because each color was different. The leaves were very crinkled bust again as I walked down the forest each leave was getting smoother and smoother. For a Moment I thought the forest was enchanted.

Grass
The grass was so bright and it matched to leaves. It was colorful and it was amazing to see how many vibrant colors grass can be. The grass looked so beautiful that I just wanted to lay in it, SO I DID!!!!. It was so fun and it made me feel colorful.

Imagination

The sky was so beautiful it was matching the enchanted forest. I loved everything there but sadly i had to go home. When I got there I had taken a photo of the forest but when I looked at it the forest was plane old run down and rusty I had know idea why it looked like that so I went back and realized  it was just my imagination.

Beach

WALT: paint an image in the readers mind.
https://images.pexels.com/photos/459556/pexels-photo-459556.jpeg?cs=srgb&dl=background-beach-beautiful-459556.jpg&fm=jpg
Ocean
The ocean was reflecting the sun which made it glimmer in daylight. It was so sparkly it made the whole beach look beautiful. Once I looked closely I saw all the lovely shallow waves crashing down onto the gold sand. The ocean was so pretty I just wanted to jump in it.

Sand
The sand was covered in the aqua ocean. The ocean made the sand shine its bright colors. There were beautiful shells everywhere and added more color to the sand. The color of the sand and ocean went beautifully together. I loved the color because it was very unique. It was very amazing to see what the ocean and sand could do together.

Sky
The sky was a very bright blue with a bit of shine from the gold glowing sun. the sky was shining very bright and matched the beautiful ocean. The sun was gold witched matched the sand. The sand and ocean went well together but it was nothing compared to the sun and the bright blue sky.

Sand castle
I built a sand castle and it started off very big. I wanted to leave it like that so I added lots of fun creative things to it. I added sharp pointy shells that added lots of different colors to it. After I did that I wanted to make it unique so I ripped up different pieces of fabric and I laid it around my sand castle.

Description:Mr Goodwin gave us a task and we had to come up with descriptive words in each sentence. We had to write at least 1 sentence for each paragraph. Room 7 had to write about any beach. the last paragraph was about something that isn't in the picture but could be.

Edited version
Once upon a time there was a girl who lived with her pet dragon. She was a very young girl who was jealous of everyone who had parents. She was only jealous because she never had parents. No one ever knew why she was always jealous of them until... one day a boy came to her home because he saw something strange about her. He saw that she never had walked around with parents. The boy spied on her every day and one day he saw her go to a house. When she got there she said “Hello Sir May I live with you I have no parents and no siblings either” “Uh Sure I guess” the man said hesitatingly “what is your name” she said “ it's Simon” he said. My dragon loves to play with people so you will make good friends with him. “Do you have a guest room?” “yes actually we do” “Can I sleep in there” “sure” he said sit down, there is food there if you are hungry ok” “Yep!!!” she said happily. One of her favorite thing to do is to paint. She was so happy there. One day she decided to leave the house to play with her dragon the ball her and her dragon were playing with went into the forest. She went to get it and when she did she saw something weird and she started exploring the forest. They both saw two figures deep in the wild and noisy forest so they ran away but she felt bad because they might need help. When she got closer she saw 2 human faces it was a woman and a man. She could swear that she had seen these faces before. She had a closer look, then remembered something. It was that when she was born she remembered what her parents looked like. “Could it be” she said starting to tear up “Could it be my parents” The two people came closer and when they saw her face they ran up to her and hugged her. “ Mum, Dad” “Yes it's us were not going anywhere”. She got back home and told Simon that she had found her parents. He didn’t want to let her go but he knew that she wanted to live with her real parents. 1 year later she lived happy with her parents and she still got to visit Simon and she was no longer jealous of other families. She lived a very happy life with her parents.

Waitangi day

WALT: use the structure of a recount to write about a holiday highlight.

Yesterday on Waitangi day I had a family game night at my house with my cousins Oalii, Raewen and  Rowana. On our family game night we played Heads up for heads up we had to get into 2 teams. We also played bus stop for bus stop we needed a pen and paper, the last game we tried to play was monopoly but there wasn’t enough time to play monopoly.

The first thing we did was when my cousins got to my house we played on our devices for a little bit. When we had to get off we all didn't want to so we came up with an idea that was great. The idea was that we could play on a device but it would be fun for the whole family so the first game was heads up. The way Heads up works is you pick a category and we picked the animal category then it will come up with random animals name on the screen then someone has to act out the animal on the screen.

Next when we finished that round we picked another category and it kept on going until the last round. My team was the winning team. We won 2 rounds and the other team only won one round. The next game we tried to played was Monopoly but that game took to long so we decided not to play it.The last game we played was bus stop. The first thing we did to play this game was we got a pen and paper, then we wrote on the top: Name, Country, food, animal , color, Movie and song then someone picked a letter then we all had to write a name underneath where we write name on the top. Then we had to write a country underneath where we wrote country on the top, then it kept on going until we finished writing a song. After that we had to tell everyone who was playing what we wrote for a Name starting with A and if someone got the same name as you then you will only get five points but if no one had the same name as you then you will get 10 points and it keeps going until you have said all of what you wrote. If someone finished before everyone else that was playing  they say bus stop then everyone has to stop and put the pen down then they have to say the name and there country then there food and animal then color and then there movie and last of all there song and that's what we did for Waitangi day. Overall I think Waitangi day was great and fun. I really enjoyed it and I love having having my cousins come over to my house.

Term 1 Animation

This is my animation for term 1. We had to create an animation about how to show respect and how to help people do the right thing. I had a lot of fun doing this as it represented what more people need to get right in order to keep the resources we need to survive. I did not have much time to record a voice over for this animation but i have still made the effort to put it on my blog.

Summer learning journey 2018/2019

For the past few years, students in Manaiakalani schools have had the chance to take part in the Summer or Winter Learning Journey. Rachel from the University of Auckland and her team create tasks for students to work on during their holidays. During the last school holidays I took part in the Summer Learning Journey and I created lots of posts for my blog. It was a lot of fun and kept me busy. I ended up receiving a certificate in assembly for my efforts. It also helped me to improve my writing skills as I created over 30 posts for my blog just in January alone.

Write like Paul Jennings

WALT: Structure a recount correctly

One day a family got back from holiday and is heading back to there rightful home. In there family is a mum who’s name is Hermione and the dad who’s name is Jake. They have a son James and James little sister Rachel. James has a wife Moriah, Moriah and James have 2 twins and there names are Hanna and Harold.

Ronald, James and Rachel had to go on a different plane because they couldn’t fit on the plane that there family was on.When they got on the plane it took about 3 minutes until they left the ground and about half an hour until they hit the storm. They thought the storm was just a normal storm but the storm actually opened a portal and they flew inside it. When the plane got inside the portal it time traveled the plane and all the people in it to 5 years later but the people in the plane had no idea. When they landed they were all waiting then someone shouted “What’s happening” then the pilot said “ your flight was booked in march 2013” then Rachel shouted “ yes we know but what does that have to do with keeping us here”, And the pilot said “Today is but today is February 2018” Everyone was shocked but it didn’t change anything so they waited, waited, waited and waited.

They waited for 3 hours until there family got to the place where everyone had to wait. James wife Moriah Was bursting into tears when she got there and as she was crying she looked at James and said “you haven’t aged a day” then she looked at Rachel and whispered “ you look exactly the same“ and lastly she looked at Ronald and said “you look so young how is this possible!!”. The next day they were walking past a cage and a voice inside Rachel head told here to set them free she couldn’t resist because the more she waited the louder the voice got so she opened the cage and there were two dos that were trapped there. She was so confused and this went on for day and days. She couldn’t take it anymore so she went home and they studied What had happened it took 3 months but they found out how to travel back in time and fix everything.

When they found out what to do they had to wait for a storm to happen, It took 3 days but it came around and they saw something I’m the distant so they ran there and saw a portal. They jumped in and they were back at the airport. They were so happy to get there life back. Then they were happy and lived normally.
